In times when more and more people are interested in healthy and regional nutrition, forego meat and eat vegetarian or vegan, “Frische Kappen” or “the Fresh Mushroom” and we are convinced of the importance of high-quality edible mushrooms.
The small noble mushroom factory Frische Kappen, produces fresh shiitake, king oyster mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, white beech mushrooms, gold caps and pioppinos for you all year round – other special varieties are in preparation (e.g. hedgehog’s mustache). The short journey from the Uckermark, in Brandenburg region allows us to deliver them fresh.
This is where the mushrooms grow:
The mushrooms love the cool atmosphere and the high humidity in the so-called fruiting room, where they thrive on beech wood chips until harvest. The actual fungus, the mycelium, feeds on the wood and after a few weeks we can finally harvest the fruiting bodies.

Small mini mushrooms, the so-called pins, appear first
A lovely “meet and match” story: Searched and found: The founders, Andreas and Manuel, ended up in the Uckermark independently of each other and fulfilled a common dream – a small, fine mushroom factory. Away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, they are now growing noble mushrooms on a farm near Templin. The site offers a lot of space and the large old field stone barn also houses their laboratory.
A biologist and a mechatronics technician:
Even as a child, Andreas roamed the woods with his uncle mushroom and learned a lot about these wonderful creatures through a small hobby mushroom cultivation. As a doctor of biology, he brings the scientific side to the company.
Manuel is responsible for the technical aspects. As a mechatronics technician in a large company for cardiac support systems, he has created the perfect knowledge base for getting started as a mushroom grower. Through his own cultivation experiments, he now knows the needs and vital conditions of the extraordinary living beings inside and out.
And they love good mushrooms! They enjoy nurturing and caring for them,
to achieve the best possible quality. The many species that can be bred each have their own characteristics – there is always something exciting to discover.
It is important to us to contribute to a healthier diet: They and we are convinced that edible mushrooms are not only a tasty addition to our diet, but also contribute to maintaining health through their numerous ingredients.

Andreas and Manuel get in contact with us two years ago before they launched their business. We are very happy that they have succeeded and it is also a great adventure for us to follow and support them from the very beginning of their story, when their idea “germinated” up to the final product.
