Nature conservation projects

By implementing specific measures for ensuring nature conservation we aim to follow a new path with the agricultural sector. Large, modern organic farming can lead to a conflict between a modern economy and nature conservation goals of organic farming – even if the cultivation occurs ecologically. This is why we aim to achieve the the goals of sustainable modern organic farming while still creating livelihoods.

The measures selected are based on results of the 5-year-old project “Naturschutzhof Brodowin” (Project Sponsor: Ökodorf Brodowin eV, supported by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation). The effects of these conservation methods have been studied on specific animal and plant groups. From the results of these studies, proposals were developed to improve living conditions for animal and plant species in an agricultural landscape.

The economic evaluation of the project has shown that individual measures are associated with significant costs. In principle, organic farming protects and maintains habitats because it avoids dangerous farming practices and unnatural influences (pesticides, synthetic fertilisers). Brodowin eco village has decided to go beyond and proactively help nature!
