Our values

Regional, authentic, seasonal

From the field to your plate - Our food is freshly harvested and usually reaches you or the organic food store around the corner the very next day - short distances, high quality.

Short and sustainable transport routes

Everything is close together: the pasture next to the dairy, the butcher two places further on. Our deliveries are efficiently organized and follow well thought-out routes. Within the Berlin ring road, we only deliver to our customers using electric cargo bikes.

Transparent down to the last detail

Where does our food come from? How is it produced? We will answer all your questions. Visit our farm and take a look through the glass façade of our dairy. If you want to go faster, you can find extensive information and photos of us and our partner companies here on the site.

Environmental protection and nature conservation

Organic farming protects and preserves habitats. We protect the environment by avoiding chemicals and using natural methods in our cultivation. The result is healthy food and fertile soil, which in turn is good for human health.

We have decided to go beyond the Demeter guidelines and do even more to protect our natural resources. On the basis of research work in Brodowin, we are implementing targeted nature conservation measures.

As a member, you can support us for just 10 euros a month and receive a 10% discount on Brodowiner products.

Fringing biotopes

These are important habitats for plants and animals on uncultivated field, forest and roadside verges. We create flower strips with meadow herbs to increase biodiversity.

Hedges

Hedges used to be an important part of our cultural landscape, but they were gradually removed - and important habitats disappeared. Our 12 km of new hedgerows with shrub and wild herb fringes provide a popular breeding ground for the rare red-backed shrike in particular.

Orchids

Draining meadows helps with intensive farming, but leads to the disappearance of orchids such as the stiff-leaved orchid and the broad-leaved orchid. We leave the orchid meadow alone and only graze it from June onwards so that the plants can form seeds. With success, because the population is increasing!

Amphibians

Ponds, lakes and swamps are important habitats for amphibians, but are also sensitive to intensive agriculture. We set up a protection zone around spawning waters and only mow amphibian migration corridors outside the migration periods. The endangered fire-bellied toad is particularly happy about this!

Bats

These fascinating mammals hunt insects and thus help to control forest pests. They are highly endangered in Germany. We have renovated a large cellar on our farm to make it bat-friendly. Even the endangered pug bat has found a winter home there.

Ground breeders

Many field bird species, such as skylarks, corn buntings and partridges, are threatened by agriculture. On the "Koppelsberg" cereal field, we are creating important gaps for birds during sowing. On the "Kuhbad" field, the mowing date is being postponed to improve breeding conditions for skylarks.

Dry grassland

We are actively committed to preserving these unique habitats. On the Großer Rummelsberg, we removed non-native larch trees to make room for endangered plants. A herd of donkeys prevents lignification and creates open sandy areas for the dry grassland.

Wild herbs

They are often undesirable on arable land and are usually removed mechanically by harrowing in organic farming. In some locations, we do not do this in order to give the plants space. These measures also encourage beneficial insects.

Wet meadows

12,500 square meters of drained meadows were renaturalized and a habitat for hydrophilic animal species was created. The increased groundwater level improves our cultivation conditions. We were supported by the European Agricultural Fund and the "Finowfließ" association.

Social sustainability

We would like to invite people of all ages to discover and understand the world of organic food production. Whether through our educational work, internships or our farm tours.

In addition, the safety and diversity of our workplaces is particularly important to us. We are actively committed to integrating and supporting older people and people with disabilities in our team. By finding new ways to develop and expand our range0 we are not only creating new products, but also new opportunities and jobs for the community.

In Berlin we deliver by bike!

The Green Urban Logistics Network

We have relied on strong partnerships since 1991. We process milk locally and grow our own animal feed. Nevertheless, we outsource certain processes to experts, for example in logistics. In 2017, we found experts in bicycle logistics in Olaf Lehnigk and Jan Erdweg.

Together with the Green Urban Logistics Network, we use e-cargo bikes for Brodowin customers throughout the Berlin S-Bahn ring.

For storage and logistics, we rely on hubs and clever route planning. By cooperating with other organic box suppliers, we optimize our routes and use intelligent software to ensure smooth delivery. We see the future in these technologies!

Our partners on the bike

The Green Urban Logistics Network brings together various bicycle logistics companies, which we would like to introduce here. These companies are currently delivering our Brodowin crates in the capital:

veloCARRIER

Brodowin has been one of the young company's main customers since fall 2019.

Urban Cargo

In 2018, our partner received the European Transport Award for Sustainability and has been supporting us since March 2020.

Chassis courier collective

Freelance couriers have been ensuring fairer working conditions in the industry since 2009. They have been driving for us since January 2020.

Zero point

The newly founded logistics company, which is now delivering for us in the Pankow area, has only been with us since the beginning of 2021.

Since 2021, the network itself has also had its own e-bikes in operation and rides out for us personally when required.

Less is more!

In action against packaging waste

On September 24, 2019, we received the "Refillable Award" from Deutsche Umwelthilfe at the ReUse Conference in Brussels.

Our brown milk bottle has been used regionally since 1995 and is reused up to 20 times. This reduces transportation emissions and avoids waste. We also offer milk in stand-up pouches containing 40% chalk as an environmentally friendly alternative.

We rely on reusable systems such as NAPF crates, which are still in use after more than 25 years. Our online store offers a range of unpackaged products in returnable jars that can be reused in an environmentally friendly way.

We deliver frozen products in special reusable polystyrene boxes filled with dry ice. In this way, we guarantee that even particularly sensitive foods arrive safely and deep-frozen. Our careful packaging ensures that the quality and freshness of the products are preserved.

Salads, cream cheese and Brodowin mozzarella are now available in WECK jars from the Brodowin delivery service.
